About the Screenplay:

Red Dragon is a screenplay by Ted Tally. Based on Thomas Harris's 1981 bestselling novel Red Dragon, a prequel to the author's subsequent bestsellers The Silence of the Lambs and Hannibal, the screenplay by Academy Award-winner Ted Tally lets moviegoers meet the character of serial killer Hannibal Lecter for the first time. The film features an all-star cast of Anthony Hopkins, Edward Norton, Ralph Fiennes, Harvey Keitel, Emily Watson, Mary-Louise Parker, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

In this chilling drama directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, The Family Man, Money Talks), Oscar-nominee Edward Norton stars as ex-FBI agent Will Graham, an expert investigator who quit the bureau after almost losing his life in the process of capturing the elusive Dr. Lecter, played again by Academy Award-winner Anthony Hopkins. Years later, after a series of particularly grisly murders, Graham reluctantly agrees to come out of retirement and assist in the case. But he soon realizes that the best way to catch this killer, Francis Dolarhyde, known as the Tooth Fairy and played by Oscar-nominee Ralph Fiennes, is to find a way to get inside the killer's mind. And the closest thing to that would be to probe the mind of another killer who is equally brilliant and equally twisted. For Graham, that means confronting his past and facing his former nemesis, the now-incarcerated Lecter.

The Red Dragon shooting script includes the complete screenplay by Ted Tally, an introduction by Tally, additional introductions by director Brett Ratner and producers Dino and Martha De Laurentiis, 11 b&w film stills, and the complete cast and crew credits.

What people say:

"The economical screenplay by Ted Tally remains faithful to the book (making good use of some of Harris' best lines)...Thanks to Tally's crisp writing and Fiennes' superb skills, the relationship [between Francis Dolarhyde and Reba McLane] achieves genuine pathos." — New York Post

"It's a much richer, more faithful adaptation of Harris' novel than Manhunter ... Ted Tally, who won an Oscar for adapting Silence of the Lambs, does an equally good job at condensing [Red Dragon] into a crisp, propulsive thriller about a deadly three-way tango between a cop and two killers: one at-large, one behind bars." — The Journal News

"Deliciously scary." — People Magazine

"The film's enormous emotional punch comes both from the written word and the astounding acting provided by this remarkable cast." — CNN.com
