About the Play:

2 Pianos 4 Hands is a full-length comedy with music by Ted Dykstra and Richard Greenblatt. A play about 2 guys, 2 pianos, and 1 dream. As kids, Ted and Richard don't have much in common – except for the shared desire to become classical pianists. But does either of them really have what it takes? 2 Pianos 4 Hands is the riotous tale of two boys in Canada sharing the same goal: concert pianist stardom.

2 Pianos 4 Hands captures the humour that comes with learning to play the piano, and the sense of loss of eventually learning to let go of the dream. Amidst pushy parents, eccentric teachers, hours of repetitive practice, stage fright, the agony of competitions and exams, and the dream of greatness, Ted and Richard grow up as "piano nerds." As they mature, they become more aware of the gap between the merely very good and the great. After fifteen years of learning the art of piano-playing, the humbling realization is that concert stardom may be out of reach, but they just might be two of the best piano players in the neighbourhood, and that in itself is worth celebrating.

2 Pianos 4 Hands premiered in 1996 at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto, and is arguably one of the most successful plays in the history of Canadian Theatre. The play won the Dora Award (the Canadian equivalent of the Tony) in 1996 for Outstanding Production and a Chalmers Award (Canadian National Award) for Playwriting in 1997. The show opened Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theatre in 1997 where it ran for 231 performances and was listed as a "Top 10" for that year by the New York Post. Since then it has played on five continents, in over 150 cities, to over 2 million people.

Cast: 2 male (alternate casting: 2 female playing "Thea" and "Rachel")
