About the Play:
Winner of the 2012
New York International Fringe Festival Best Overall Production
5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is a full-length comedy by Evan
Linder and
Andrew Hobgood. It's
1956 and the ladies of the
Susan B. Anthony Society for
the Sisters of Gertrude Stein are having their annual quiche
breakfast. When a siren signals a nuclear threat, the sisterhood
unites and divides over secrets and a prize-winning quiche. Will they
be able to keep their cool when Communists threaten their idyllic
town?
5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is set in the 1950s. The Susan
B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein has gathered for
their annual quiche-off. The normally idyllic gathering, where the
motto is "no men, no meat, all manners," is upended when
the Society's matriarchs must confront the startling revelation that
an atom bomb may be falling on their fair city. As fears are
confronted and confessions fly, the closet doors blow open as these
upstanding "widows" begin sharing their deepest secrets...
and some not-so-shocking confessions. Are they actually widows? Who
will win the quiche contest? Will they be able to keep their cool and
preserve their history as the Red Menace closes in? 5 Lesbians Eating A Quiche is a tasty recipe of hysterical laughs, sexual innuendoes, unsuccessful repressions, and delicious discoveries.
5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche was first presented in 2011 at
DANK Haus German American Cultural Center in Chicago, Illinois. This
production was subsequently presented in New York City at the 2012
New York International Fringe Festival. It sold-out its run at the
Fringe Festival, where it was named Best Overall Production before
transferring to off-off-Broadway at
the SoHo Playhouse. The
play has been performed all over the U.S., Europe, and Australia, and
has become a popular choice for community theatre productions.
