About
the Play:
Accommodations is a full-length comedy by Nick Hall.
The four characters, Lee,
Pat, Tracy and Bob, come together after Lee leaves her husband Bob. Accommodations is a poignant comedy about the separation of a husband and wife and the
confused identities of her new roommates. It all works out well at the end of a bumpy and funny journey.
Accommodations revolves around a woman who leaves her
husband and moves into an apartment she believes will be shared by
two other women. At the same time, one of the 'room mates' thinks the
same thing – only he believes it's two other men. Lee Schallert,
housewife, feeling unappreciated and ignored in their marriage,
leaves her husband, Bob, and her stable middle class suburban life
and moves into a two room Greenwich Village apartment with two
roommates named Tracy and Pat. The rental agency was not clear on the
gender of the roommates. One roommate, Pat, is young, larger than
life aspiring actress, never out of character or costumes; but
through an agency mix up, the other roommate is Tracy, a serious,
young, male graduate student. The fun and misdirection begins when
the husband, who wants to win his wife back, pays a visit and meets
the roommates. The ensuing complications make a hysterical evening of
entertainment for the whole family with a happy ending for everyone.
Accommodations premiered in 1972 at the Sea Ranch Dinner
Theater in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It has since been performed all
over the United States, Canada, Europe, and even British radio and
Swedish television, and has become a perennial community and dinner
theatre favourite.
