About the Booklet and CD:
Dialects and Accents for British and other Commonwealth speakers from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa playing or auditioning for American roles.
Whether on stage or screen, much of the potential work available
requires an American accent. And as such, the ability to do an American
accent as an actor is an invaluable tool to have at your disposal. Dialects can instantly transform you into another person by affecting
the very essence of who you are in the world – your speech. Dialects,
for many actors, are enjoyable, useful tools. American Accents for English Actors is a 3-CD set containing Standard American Accent for English Actors, New York City Accents for English Actors, and Southern and Texas Accents for English Actors.
American Accents for English Actors is a self-instructional program in the Acting With An Accent series prepared by a speech teacher and dialect coach to the stars, Dr. David Alan Stern. He doesn't use "tricks." Instead he teaches the basics of convincing dialects – resonance, lilt, sound substitutions and pace. He explains pronunciations, word choice and touches on idioms.
American Accents for English Actors is not just samples for imitation, but contains step-by-step, systematic lessons for British and other Commonwealth speakers from Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa playing or auditioning for American roles; teaches (1) Standard American (non-regional), (2) New York City (and surrounding areas), and (3) Southern and Texas patterns, vocal resonance, and pronunciation changes. Each packet contains a manual on CD and three 80-minute-long instructional compact discs that teaches you Lilt, Stress, Resonance and Pronunciation.
Dr. David Stern is a master dialectician and teacher of film and TV actors. He has taught at several universities and at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. His Acting With An Accent compact discs are used in over 1000 university theatre programs and by professional actors around the world.
