About the Play:

Any Night is a full-length drama by Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn. A troubled young dancer moves into a new basement suite and finds herself drawn into romance with the charming young man living above her – until she starts suffering strange behaviour in her sleep. A romantic mystery about privacy, trust, and the power of the subconscious. Any Night is a personal exploration of a universal theme: the thin line between trust and fear.

Any Night is a gothic and contemporary romantic mystery about the relationship between Anna and Patrick, and how their growing romance is complicated and compromised by the former's bizarre sleep patterns. When Anna, a troubled modern dancer struggling with the death of her mother, moves into a new basement suite for solace and solitude, she finds herself drawn into a tender relationship with Patrick, the helpful young man living above her. But why is she suffering violent behaviour in her sleep? As her night terrors and sleepwalking intensify, both she and Patrick are sent down a spiral of fear and are soon caught in fracturing timelines – from a night spent observed in a sleep clinic to a violent dream-like accident. Anna must sort reality from dream and past from present and future, or she may never wake up. Part romance, part psychological thriller, Any Night is a mind-bending puzzle exploring the thin line between trust and fear and the immeasurable power of the subconscious.

Any Night premiered in 2008 on the MainStage of the Belfry Theatre in Victoria. The US premiere was in 2011 off-Broadway at LABA Theater in New York City. It has received raves and awards across Canada including "Best Show of the Year" citations in Toronto and Vancouver and garnered acclaim during runs in Calgary, Edmonton, Austin, Los Angeles, and other cities. Particularly suitable for schools and play contests.

About the Playwrights:

Daniel Arnold is a Canadian actor, writer and producer for both stage and screen who has won multiple awards. He is an Honours graduate of University of Alberta's BFA acting program. His stage plays Tuesdays & Sundays and Any Night, which he cowrote/performed with Medina Hahn, have toured across Canada and internationally, garnering numerous awards and accolades. Thanks to a mentorship with playwright Daniel MacIvor, Daniel Arnold and Medina Hahn are also the protégé recipients of Canada's most prestigious theatre award, The Siminovitch Prize.

Medina Hahn is a Canadian actress, writer, and producer who has won multiple awards. She holds two performance degrees as a graduate of the University of Victoria Theatre program and the University of Alberta’s BFA acting program. As an actress, she has performed on screen and on numerous stages in New Mexico, San Francisco, New York City, Scotland, the Czech Republic and throughout Canada. With Daniel Arnold, she has written and toured the stage plays Tuesdays & Sundays and Any Night.
