About
the Play:
Beyond the Sea is a full-length a romantic comedy by
Kristen Da Silva. On a pier
in a small town, a pair of strangers begin a conversation that may
change the destiny of two lost souls forever. Beyond the
Sea is a perfect balance of wit
and empathy as Theo and Gwen quickly find themselves sharing their
stories of love, loss and the importance of looking forward.
Beyond the Sea is a
beautifully crafted two-hander. On a summer day on a pier in a small
town, two strangers stumble into a chance encounter that just might
save them both. Theo is a
man with self-image problem who is starting to date again after his
divorce. He is waiting for a
date who is well past overdue.
Gwen is a good-humoured loner who works the ticket booth for the
Ghost Tour, a local boat tour company that promises a vision of the
mournful Woman in White. Starting as a casual exchange, with humour
and heart, they show us that no one is perfect ... and in the end,
that may be the greatest strength that we all share. Beyond
the Sea is a story about the
emergence of hope through grief, via two life-scarred characters.
Beyond the Sea premiered
in 2021 to sold out audiences at Lighthouse Festival Theatre
in Port Dover, Ontario and The
Hamilton Spectator
called it "pure
wonderful theatre".
Since then the play has
been successfully staged at several professional theatres in
Canada.

What people say:
"I didn't expect to have my
heart broken by Gwen and Theo, the two exquisitely drawn characters
in Canadian playwright Kristen Da Silva's sweet
little play, Beyond the Sea, about loss, longing
and the possibility of brave fulfillment." — The
Hamilton Spectator
"Cleverly, playfully,
unpredictably, near-relentlessly funny! Da Silva's two complex,
likeable, fully human and slightly haunted characters share a great
deal of themselves with each other and with us, and the result is an
evening of superb theatre." — The Buzz
(PEI)
