About
the Book:
HARD
TO FIND BOOK, only a very limited number of copies are still
available.
International superstar and high fashion model Blythe has never
let the fact that she is literally a doll slow her down. Though only
12-inches tall, the diva created by Allison Katzman has been
celebrated in the front windows of Bloomingdales; on the cover of
Women's Wear Daily; in People, the New York Times, and ad campaigns
for Nordstrom, Sony, and trendy Japanese department stores.
In Blythe Style, she shows off over 120 to-die-for outfits
created for her by top designers from around the world, including
Gucci, Prada, Versace, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, John
Galliano, Paul Smith, Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood, and dozens
more.
Photographed with colourful invention by Gina Garan,
these one-of-a-kind dolls were created as part of a yearlong monthly
feature in Vogue Japan and annual fashion shows in Japan organized by
Junko Wong, all for the sake of charity.
When the Blythe dolls came out in 1972, they weren't huge hits and
she was only available for one year. But over the next 30 years, a
fan base quietly grew. Now they have a cult following and Blythe has
managed to rise from toy box obscurity to jet-set celebrity with
incomparable style and grace. Très chic!
About the Playwright:
Allison Katzman (1925-2020) was a pioneering female toy
designer who spent half her life creating toys for children. She grew
up in Seattle and earned a place at the prestigious Art Institute of
Chicago in 1945. Her creative and professional life included opening
a ceramic studio, creating displays for museums and banks, and a 50+
year career as a toy designer. One of her best-known designs is the
beloved Blythe line of fashion dolls and accessories created while
she worked at Marvin Glass and Associates, a prominent toy design
company in Chicago. She held over 30 design patents in her name.
Gina Garan is a photographer and video producer who has
published a number of photo books on the legendary fashion doll
Blythe. Her photos have been displayed in solo shows in Tokyo,
London, Melbourne, Seoul, Los Angeles, New York, and Santa Fe, and in
numerous group shows.
Junko Wong is president of Cross World Connections, a Tokyo-based agency that has been pivotal in returning Blythe to the spotlight she deserves.
