About the Play:

HARD TO FIND BOOK, only a very limited number of copies are still available.

Cheatin' Hearts is a full-length musical comedy with book and lyrics by Paul Ledoux and original music by David Smyth. Three women win a singing contest at a local bar and form a group and try to make it big. A rousing Canadian classic with great toe-tappin' country/rock music and good ol' country characters that bring this feel-good show to life: a sentimental romp with bushels of fun!

Cheatin' Hearts is a story of love, friendship, and betrayal as seen through the eyes of Hoss, the loveable janitor at a country dance hall. The club is run by Bobby Curtis, a down-on-his-luck country singer. Bobby's luck begins to change when a talented trio calling themselves Daddy's Girls arrive on the scene. Bobby shepherds the girls to the finals in a national TV talent show contest, but a rekindled affair with Kelly, the lead singer, threatens to destroy the group. Linda, the youngest of the trio, gets fired and Bobby steals the rights to her songs. Meanwhile, Hoss, now hopelessly in love with Linda, faces a showdown with Bobby as he battles to get Linda back into the contest. Musical composer David Smyth has written several original numbers that enhance the show.

Cheatin' Hearts premiered in 1994 at the Magnus Theatre in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Since then the play had regional premieres at professional theatres across Canada and has been one of the biggest hits for small-cast musicals this country has ever seen.
