About
the Play:
CLUE: The Musical is a full-length musical comedy with book
by Peter DePietro, lyrics by Tom Chiodo, and music by
Galen Blum, Wayne Barker, and Vinnie Martucci, based on the Parker
Brothers' Board Game. Someone killed Mr. Boddy, but who, where, and
how? With 216 possible outcomes, the audience gets to play along as
the familiar characters from the popular
board game CLUE sing and dance their way to discovering
the killer. Each twist and turn is accompanied by delightfully witty
lyrics that will keep your audience guessing until the very end!
CLUE: The Musical brings
the world's best-known suspects to life and invites the audience to
help solve the mystery: who killed Mr. Boddy, in what room and with
what weapon. The audience receives forms to help them deduce the
solution from clues given throughout the fun filled evening. This is
a fun-filled interactive family musical starting just as the
internationally popular board game CLUE
does, with three audience members selecting one card each from three
oversized decks and placing them in an envelope marked
"Confidential." The envelope is then left untouched until
the end of the production. This is a unique murder mystery experience
because the chosen cards representing the potential murderers,
weapons and rooms will determine the ending of the show, which has
216 possible conclusions, as well as some interchangeable dialogue
between certain characters which are delivered as the play
progresses. Only one hard-nosed female detective is qualified to
unravel the merry mayhem. Comical antics, witty lyrics, and a
beguiling score carry the investigation from room to room. Even after
the culprit confesses, a surprise twist delights the audience. This
colourful crowd-pleaser was devised by the authors of Murder
at Rutherford House and other
popular interactive entertainments.
CLUE: The Musical had
try-out performances in 1995 at the New Boston Street Dinner
Theatre in Baltimore, and in 1996 at the Organic Theater in Chicago.
The musical premiered in
1997 at the Players Theater Off-Broadway in New York City and enjoyed
a successful run. The play
is regularly performed in regional, high school, college,
and community theatre productions.
