About the Book:

Whether you're a raw comedy beginner or an experienced comedy writer, the principles in this book will help you grow and develop your skills.

Comedy Writing Step by Step has been the manual for humour writers for over 25 years. Many of the writers working in today's television sitcoms, variety, and talk shows, along with countless stand-up comics working the club circuit, readily confirm that the earlier edition of this book (first published in 1982) was influential in launching or furthering their comedy careers. Now, with his first update of this comedy writing how-to classic, three-time Emmy-award winner Gene Perret has revised his magnum opus to reflect current comedy trends, including material from today's top humorists as well as comedy legends.

Comedy Writing Step by Step offers you common sense, down-to-earth, practical, put-it-on-paper tips that lead to successful comedy writing. The chapters leap out with strong vibrant guidelines including:
• How and wear to get ideas
• How to learn from other comics, past and present
• How to prepare your mind to write comedy
• How to get jokes flowing onto the page
• How and why to routine your jokes into a monologue
• Tips on writing sketches and situation comedies
