About the Play:

Creation is a full-length musical comedy by Peter Anderson. The story of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, and Moses follows, as the Old Testament comes alive in a thoughtful and provocative re-imagining of the greatest story ever told.

Creation, as the title implies, is the retelling of several Old Testament stories from the Bible. In the beginning, God created heaven and earth … then things got a little out of hand! It all starts when God sets the universe in motion. Then comes the story of Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah, and Moses as the Old Testament comes alive through the madcap imagination of Peter Anderson. Songs by Allen Cole provide the musical complements to the serpent's temptation, the menagerie of animals boarding the Ark, and all the episodes of this modern "mystery play." Not quite the King James Bible, but definitely entertaining! Creation is part of a cycle of plays influenced by medieval mystery plays in which scenes from the Bible were enacted.

Creation was first produced in 1991 by the Caravan Farm Theatre in Armstrong, B.C., and Western Canada Theatre Company in Kamloops, B.C. It was also presented in Ottawa at The National Arts Centre (NAC) English Theatre in 2012.

Cast: 6 female, 7 male

What people say:

"The show is based on medieval mystery plays which covered human existence from the creation to Judgment Day. Anderson captures with verve the blend of the august and the quotidian, the funny and the tragic which underpins those old plays and will always define the human condition.." — Ottawa Citizen

"Regardless of religious convictions, the message is simple and meant for everybody alike: celebrate and uphold life, do not destroy it. The audience felt it and rewarded the actors with a long and warm round of applause. Creation is one play that no one should miss for its artistic, entertainment and narrative value." — Capital Critics' Circle
