About
the Play:
HARD TO FIND BOOK, only a very limited number of copies are still
available.
Cruising is a full-length comedy by Alecky Blythe. A
hilarious, real-life comedy about pensioners going in search of love
– from the sublime to the downright saucy. Cruising
uses
the innovative verbatim-theatre technique – using
the real words of real
people – developed by
Alecky Blythe.
Cruising is a revealing
look at love and sex among the over-seventies. Maureen is a pensioner
in search of passion. After 33 blind dates, 12 cruises and one broken
heart, she is still determined to find Mr Right. But when best friend
Margaret beats her to the altar, Maureen has her doubts – is
Margaret just on the rebound and, more importantly, will she lose her
pension? Cruising is created by recording
interviews in real life and then relaying the edited scripts to the
cast through earphones in live performance. The actors retain the
original speakers' hesitations and half-sentences.
The result is both disconcertingly comic and profoundly moving, as
all the individual peculiarities of the 'characters' are scrupulously
reproduced.
Cruising premiered in
2006 at the Bush Theatre in
London and
was a sell out.
Cast: 8 female, 10 male
