About the Play:
The Diary of Adam and Eve is a one-act comedy adapted for
the stage by Marc Bucci, based on the critically-acclaimed
Mark Twain short story of the same name. Mark Twain
humorously recreates the first days when Adam, a quiet man who enjoys
the simplicity and peace of Eden, is unexpectedly joined by Eve, an
energetic and much too talkative woman. As Adam and Eve discover each
other, audiences will get a new look at the famous first couple.
Especially recommended for
school and contest use.
The Diary of Adam and Eve
showcases the quirky tenderness and enduring wit of American humorist
Mark Twain – best
known for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
and its sequel, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.
The play is
the account of what really happened at the beginning of humanity,
told by the first two humans themselves. Adam doesn't get a
chance to name any of the new wonders of creation because Eve always
beats him to it. When asked why she names a bird a Dodo, her reply is
always, "Because it looks like a Dodo." Eve feels that she,
too, is an important experiment and she must chronicle her
observations. Among these observations are the discovery of fire, the
fact that water runs uphill at night and that not only can she talk
to animals but some, such as the snake, can talk back. Accepting the
apple, Eve and Adam get a new look at life. A delightful retelling of
human creation and the first true battle of the sexes!
The Diary of Adam and Eve
has become a popular
choice for school and community theatre productions.
