About the Play:

The Early Bird is a full-length drama by Leo Butler. A child that goes missing is every parent's gravest fear. When it happens to the couple in Leo Butler's dark play, their relationship is put under enormous strain as each blames the other as they try to make sense of what has happened to their daughter.

The Early Bird taps into the darkest fears of any parent — what if your child simply disappears? Debbie and Jack blame each other and themselves, and in doing so reveal the inner secrets of their own relationship in this disturbing and darkly humorous play. In this thrilling two-hander, Leo Butler's language moves between naturalism and hyper-realism, brilliantly capturing the surreal quality of the worst time in this couple's life.

The Early Bird premiered in 2006 at the Queen's Theatre in the Belfast Festival in Ireland.
