About the Play:

The Edmonton Queen is a one man/woman play by Darrin Hagen.

A Drag Dynasty is about to be divined from the high life decade of decadence. It is destined, pre-ordained — and perfectly coiffed. Darrin Hagen, under the mentorship of his drag mother, Lulu LaRude, rose to the height of glamour as Gloria Hole, performer extraordinaire at the legendary Flashback nightclub. Beneath the layers of nightlife, stage lights and make-up lay the complex relationships of a chosen family. Both hilarious and moving, The Edmonton Queen once again invites readers to the exclusive party that was, and should not be missed again.

Cast: 1 man/woman

What people say:

"This story, with its bright sassy veneer and its tragedies beneath, counts as a veritable Edmonton archive." — Edmonton Journal

About the Playwright:

Darrin Hagen is an award-winning writer, composer and actor, as well as Canada's most notorious drag performer. For nine years he was the co-host of Help!TV, seen nationally on Canadian Learning Television, and his next series, "Who's On Top? " debuted in January 2003 on the Life Channel. He was the first Drag Artiste in Canada to host a national television series. In 2005, Hagen was named as one of 100 Edmontonians of the Century for the city’s centennial anniversary celebrations. His name came alphabetically right after Wayne Gretzky's. To the best of his knowledge, he's the only drag queen on that list.
