About
the Book:
The Films of Lon Chaney
by renowned film historian
Michael F. Blake is
the most complete
filmography of Lon Chaney's
work ever compiled. Best known for his roles as the title characters
in the silent films The
Hunchback of Notre Dame
and The Phantom of the
Opera, master
of disguises Lon Chaney was
a remarkably versatile actor and makeup artist who appeared in over
150 films, less than a third of which survive (among his other
groundbreaking characterizations are Treasure
Island's Blind Pew and
Oliver Twist's
Fagin).
In the research leading up to
this volume, Michael F. Blake
uncovered a previously unknown Chaney film title, and the discovery
enriches our knowledge of this legendary film actor. The
Films of Lon Chaney contains summaries of each of Chaney's 158
known appearances, along with cast and crew lists, plot synopsis,
selected reviews, and behind-the-scenes information on the
productions. Also included are 120 photographs, most of which are
published for the first time. Many frame enlargements of Chaney's
seldom-seen home movies are included – a special treat for film
buffs.
The Films of Lon Chaney
is the definitive
filmography of
one of cinema's greatest
actors. Easy
accessible,
this book belongs on the shelves of Chaney fans and film historians
alike.
