About
the Play:
HARD TO FIND BOOK, only a very limited
number of copies are still available.
The Good Egg is a full-length comedy by Michael Lewis
MacLennan. Trouble arises when a successful couple wanting a
child get more than they bargained for when they purchase the sperm
of a handsome life-studies model. A donor, a baby and a twist of fate
all contribute to keeping audiences guessing and laughing in an
intriguing tale of love, trust, and modern family values.
The Good Egg is a riveting, rollicking comedy about three
people trying to conceive a baby. Robin and Brodie are the ultimate
downtown couple – attractive, smart, and successful. They have
everything they could ever want. Except a child. When bad news points
them to alternative methods of conception, they encounter a handsome
young art-studies model named Wade. He seems like the virile answer
to their prayers. But as this unlikely trio gets more intimate,
secret feelings emerge and threaten to destroy not only their hasty
deal, but everything they've so carefully built for themselves. From
one of Canada's funniest playwrights, The Good Egg is a
penetrating look at timely, controversial issues. Theatrically
audacious, it's also an achingly real and hilarious portrait of three
unpredictable people on the brink.
The Good Egg premiered in 2009 at Alberta Theatre Projects
during its National playRites
Festival of New Plays in Calgary. The
play has been
performed in college theatre productions as a showcase of student
talent.

What people say:
"The Good Egg is
a sharp, fun, sexy comedy full of poetic language, punched up with
raunchy jokes, witty repartee, [and an] honesty and directness that
is so appealing. All three characters are fully rounded – full of
flaws and insecurities as they tumble through these huge
life-altering events." — Fast Forward Weekly
"A smart, hip and fast-paced
comedy [with a] tight, engaging script ... Far above the realm of [a]
very clever and funny sitcom, it succeeds very well indeed in joining
laughter to the shifting nature of human relationships." —
Calgary Herald
"I felt I was witnessing the
birth of a spunky new Canadian sex farce." — Calgary
Sun
