About
the Play:
Here Lies Jeremy Troy is a full-length comedy by Jack
Sharkey. What's the difference between a lawyer and a liar?
Jeremy Troy is a successful New York lawyer who is about to be made a
partner in his law firm. He has everything – a beautiful wife,
money, and a lovely home. The only thing he's missing is a law
degree! If the truth comes out, Jeremy's whole life could be turned
upside down! That's when the fun begins and never ends in a night of
fun and riotous laughter!
Here Lies Jeremy Troy is built on the Three D's of
deception, duplicity and double-dealing. In this hilarious farce,
Jeremy Troy has led everyone to believe that he is a qualified
lawyer. In fact, his boss is coming to dinner that evening to meet
his wife Kathryn and will be making him a full partner in the law firm.
Unfortunately, right before the boss arrives, Jeremy and Kathryn are
visited by an old college friend who now lives by sponging off former
classmates. When he discovers that Jeremy has created a fake law
degree for himself, he threatens to reveal this fraud to the boss,
and sets in motion a series of lies that follow in rapid succession,
resulting in non-stop laughs. Disappointed in her husband, Kathryn
walks out on him; and a beautiful but incompetent young model is
hired to play her part for the evening. Panic and confusion follow
when the boss appears and Kathryn unexpectedly returns. Can Jeremy
survive all the chaos without the truth about his past coming out? Or
will he finally be ruined by the web of lies he continues to spin?
Fortunately the boss thinks such a devious man would make a good
lawyer!
Here Lies Jeremy Troy premiered in 1965 at the Lakewood
Theatre in Skowhegan, Maine. Since
then the play has been produced widely at
high schools, colleges, and community theatres.
