About
the Book:
How to Get the Part...Without Falling Apart!
is the answer to every actor's audition prayers. Celebrated acting and audition coach Margie Haber has spent over 40 years teaching celebrities and top actors from around the world. It was while teaching at the Lee
Strasberg Institute in the 1970s that she noticed actors were
confident at scene study but struggling with auditioning. Based on
her background as a speech therapist and experience as an actress, audition coach, and teacher, she created "The Haber Phrase Technique" to get actors through
readings without stumbling over the script. She says ultimately it is
about taking away the "three p's" (pain, panic, and
performance anxiety) from the cold-reading process and giving back
the "big P," POWER, to the actor.
How To Get The Part Without Falling Apart
helps you
break through the psychological roadblocks to auditioning with a
specific, 10-step audition method for breaking down the scene. You
learn to prepare thoroughly, whether you
have twenty minutes or two weeks. Covering
both acting for the camera and auditioning for the camera, this book
is filled with real-life (and often hilarious) audition stories from
her clients. And some of the nation's leading actors, with comments
and anecdotes from over fifty top industry professionals.
In the 1980's, Margie Haber was working
with two unknown actors on their audition technique, Michael Easton
and Brad Pitt. Coincidentally, both of them ended up screen testing
for the same role in a film called, Thelma & Louise.
Little did anyone know that his supporting part in the movie would
turn out to be a breakthrough role for Brad Pitt, flinging open the
door to his future success. It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and
he was prepared for it.
How To Get The Part Without Falling Apart is divided into
four sections, each dealing with a different aspect of auditioning:
Getting Out of Your Own Way, Breaking Down the Scene, The Haber
Phrase Technique (a system that teaches the actor how to use the
page, trust the words and explore the life, instead of focusing on
the trap of memorization), and Words From the Pros. It also includes
a major bonus: sample TV and film audition scenes. A must-have book
for the film actor.

she has an uncanny ability to see you the way producers and casting
