About
the Play:
Inspecting Carol is a full-length comedy by Daniel
Sullivan. A Christmas Carol meets The Government Inspector meets Noises Off in this hilarious, madcap
comedy! Inspecting Carol is a farcical behind-the-scenes look when all goes wrong
in a small
theatre company's attempt to mount its annual production of A
Christmas Carol. Complicating the effort are prima donna performers,
cast love affairs and a surprise visit by an inspector from the
funding arts foundation.
Inspecting Carol deals
with a struggling regional theatre company that is rehearsing its
annual production of Charles Dickens' seasonal standby, A
Christmas Carol.
Rehearsals are at a standstill and their funding is
on hold. Tim is no longer Tiny, Scrooge wants to do the play in
Spanish (Feliz Navidad), when they get news of the impending arrival
of a funding inspector from the National Endowment for the Arts to
review their work. When they assume that the man who asks to audition
is really an informer for the NEA, everyone caters to the bewildered
wannabe actor and he is given a role. What will happen when the
actual funding inspector shows up? Cross
A Christmas Carol
with The Government
Inspector and
Noises Off
to make great holiday entertainment. Why not? thought the nationally
respected Seattle Repertory Theatre's resident company. This
laugh out loud spoof makes for a night at the theatre that is
anything but show business as usual. Perfect anytime, this delight is
particularly appropriate at Christmas.
Inspecting Carol premiered in 1991 as part of the "Stage
2" productions at Seattle Repertory Theatre. It was not only a
hit for the Seattle Repertory Theatre's resident company but went on
to spawn multiple regional, high school, and community theatre productions as an
alternative to yet another December staging of A Christmas Carol.
