About the Play:

Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend is a one-act dark comedy by Paul Elliott. When Peter climbed out on that ledge to commit suicide, he thought a suicide advisor was trying to stop him. Wrong!!!! Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend is an absurdist play about a man wanting to jump off a ledge and two suicide advisors who want his business before he goes. "Who knew Suicide could be so much fun?"

Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend begins dramatically when a depressed Peter crawls out onto a ledge prepared to jump. There he meets J.M., a professional suicide advisor who instead of trying to save Peter, wants to sell him suicide lessons…like – how to draw a crowd, how to hold the audience, how to build tension when the TV cameras arrive, and, finally, when and how to jump. Just when Peter is about to buy those lessons, a rival suicide advisor arrives on the ledge. P.J. explains that J.M. is a bust at suicide counseling and has fouled up every case he has pursued. Now J.M. is depressed and wants to jump off of Peter's ledge. As the advisors argue, Peter decides to take matters into his own hands. He decides nobody is jumping off a ledge today; life has too much to offer to end it over just a couple of bad days. Ledge, Ledger, and the Legend is a tongue-in-cheek comedy, which posits that there are three certainties out on a ledge: life, death, and business.

Ledge, Ledger and the Legend is regularly performed in high school and college theatre productions as a showcase of student talent. In 2012 it was honoured as one of the top 25 most produced one-act plays in the last 25 years. To celebrate, a spectacular production was staged at The Lounge Theatre in Hollywood and played to sold out crowds.

What people say:

"A complex study of suicide, this one has a bit of sting in it, but to good effect. [Ledge, Ledger and the Legend has] two men caught on the same ledge with radically different agendas." — New Zealand Herald

"[Ledge, Ledger and the Legend is] about a young man named Pete who crawls out onto a ledge to end it all, when he is interrupted by a suicide counselor whose business is to help suicides 'go out in style'. They're interrupted by a rival counselor, and Pete must decide who to give his business of 'going out in style' to." — The Bradley Scout
