About
the Book:
Warning! It's a fact: If you are not enjoying yourself, the person
auditioning you won't enjoy you either!
If true actors live for the process, then why have we collectively
agreed that the largest part of it, the audition, is the most
dreaded? We actors must, in each moment, be courageous risk takers;
freely expressive, and available to our instincts. We want the job.
We want it badly! But the worry and dread most of us experience in
facing the audition event cripples us and our abilities to be
effective.
Larry Silverberg is one of the world's foremost authorities
on the Sanford Meisner technique of acting and an
internationally acclaimed author. His book Loving to Audition:
The Audition Workbook for Actors describes the seven
roadblocks preventing us from enjoying this vital piece of the
actor's puzzle: comparisons, preparation, talent, time, small talk,
trying to guess what they want, and the "they're something, I'm
nothing" mentality. All but one of these things is just noise
making us crazy and distracting us from the only thing we can
control: our preparation.
In Loving
to Audition you will learn the essential and vital
skills of great auditioning and you will begin to bring your most
passionate and creative self into the audition room rather than
leaving it outside the door! Most importantly, master teacher Larry
Silverberg guides you toward a shift in your experience of
auditioning from anxiety and fear, to artistic pleasure, aliveness,
and joy!
If you are a student preparing for auditions or a seasoned
professional, the lessons offered in Loving to Audition will
empower you towards excellence in audition performances.
