About the Play:
Music for Contortionist is a full-length drama by Morwyn
Brebner. A German cabaret
artist who has seen better days – at least some of them were better
– reminisces. What she doesn't remember, she makes up.
Music for Contortionist is a fascinating glimpse into the
world of Valeska Gert – a 1930s
German cabaret star and avant-garde performance artist – reminiscing
in a New York nightclub. She explains life, love, and art from
her own unique perspective. By turns hilarious and moving, Music
for Contortionist is a wild ride.
Morwyn Brebner's stunning playwriting debut, Music for
Contortionist, was co-produced by the Shaw Festival and the
Tarragon Theatre in 2000 and nominated for a Chalmers Award and two
Dora Mavor Moore Awards, including Best New Play.
