About the Play:
My Big Gay Italian Wedding is a full-length comedy by
Anthony Wilkinson. What
could possibly go wrong when everyone wants to help out with the
wedding plans… everything that is what in this BIG off-Broadway
wacky-zanny mega hit production.
My Big Gay Italian Wedding
satirizes the controversy
surrounding same-sex marriage while drawing on larger than life gay
and Italian characters. Anthony Pinnunziato, a gay Italian-American
from a large chaotic family, wants to marry his boyfriend Andrew
Polinski in a traditional Italian ceremony. Everyone
wants to "help", but
it spins into a hysterical fiasco as everyone tries to have their
way. Anthony's loud,
opinionated, outspoken Italian mother won't give her blessing unless
Andrew's estranged mother also gives her blessing and the ceremony is
performed by a priest. Matters are further complicated by Andrew's
saboteur ex-boyfriend, intent on breaking up the couple.
Personalities and
culture collide in this music and dance-filled extravaganza that is the first of the internationally-known, critically acclaimed Big Gay Italian Trilogy.
My Big Gay Italian Wedding premiered in 2003 at the Actors
Playhouse in New York City and later moved to Theatre Four in 2004.
It was revived in 2009 at St. Luke's Theatre for a 16
month run off-Broadway. Since then My Big Gay Italian Wedding has become
one of the highest grossing off-Broadway plays and has been performed
in regional theatres across America, Edinburgh, Scotland during the Fringe Festival,
London, Vancouver, Hong Kong, and a UK tour that commenced in France.

What people say:
"Feel-good hysterical comedy."
— The Wall Street Journal
"An insanely funny and fun
confection. The mixture of the sacred and profane, the ultra-serious
and ultra-silly makes this the perfect play." — Edge
New York
