About
the Book:
No Acting Please explores the theory and specific process
of the Eric Morris System of Acting – a unique approach that
has all of "the method" with none of "the madness".
It
is a resource used in colleges, universities, and acting schools
around the world.
While
his techniques are solidly rooted in "the method" he has gone far
beyond the original precepts of the Stanislavski system and so many
of the practitioners of that approach. Addressing the actor's obstacles, inhibitions and emotional
blocks, the Eric Morris System is
half instrumental and half craft. It
presents over one hundred and twenty-five one of a kind
exercises and concrete techniques that liberate actors so they can
apply the craft from a being
state. Often using journal excerpts and dialogues from actual
classes taught by famed acting
coach Eric Morris, these exercises teach actors to
systematically eliminate their instrumental obstacles – tensions,
fears, inhibitions, and emotional blocks – and explore the being
state, where actors do no more and no less than what they feel. It
also contains a step-by step explanation of sense memory.
The first of five books, No Acting Please is a wonderful
introduction to the Eric Morris System. Complete with photographs of
actors involved in the process. Co-authored by Joan Hotchkis,
with excerpts from her journal.
