About the Plays:

Some great pieces for scene work or performance.

The acclaimed Samuel French Off Off Broadway Original Short Play Festival in Manhattan (commonly referred to as OOB) is America's leading short play festival. The annual OOB Festival originated in 1975 and has since attracted US and international short plays that may be up to 15 pages in length from countries like Canada, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Off Off Broadway Festival Plays, 47th Series is a collection of short plays selected by a panel of judges that included New York playwrights, artistic directors, and industry leaders as the most important plays of the 47th OOB Festival. The Final 30 Playwrights competed for the six prize spots chosen from over 750 submissions worldwide. Six short plays were named the winners of the 2022 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival. The six winning authors are: Jessie Field, Ben Holbrook, Onyekachi Iwu, Alex Moon, Erika Phoebus, and Nicholas Pilapil.

Too Much Lesbian Drama: One Star is a 10-minute comedy by Jessie Field: Addison brings so much lesbian drama to therapy that her therapist needs to unpack it with her own therapist! (Cast: 3 female)

Chemistry is a 10-minute comedy by Ben Holbrook: Did you hear? Jojo has a new job! She's been walking around her neighbourhood, memorizing messages and delivering them all around Brooklyn. One message, however, finds her engaging in a fascinating conversation with Thad, which ranges from love, to sex, to chemicals. (Cast: 1 female, 1 male)

Georgia Rose is a 10-minute drama by Onyekachi Iwu: A Black mother struggles to advocate for her teenage daughter in a conference with her white teacher. The play explores themes of motherhood, incarceration, sizeism, colourism, and living in a world that sees Black girls' thorns before their roses. (Cast: 2 female)

Bugs is a 10-minute dramatic comedy by Alex Moon: Two long-haul truckers are forced to reckon with unspoken grief in their friendship when it appears insects begin throwing themselves purposefully against their truck's windshield. (Cast: 2 male)

Shark Week is a 10-minute dramatic comedy by Erika Phoebus: Kyri and Alex are synced. Like literally. They always get their periods at the same time. But Kyri's got a secret, and it's going to take an untamed ocean, forgotten tampons, and a little help from a very wise shark, to finally be able to say what's right for her body and for her life. (Cast: 2 female, 1 male, 1 any gender)

If All That You Take From This is Courage, Then I've No Regrets is a 10-minute drama by Nicholas Pilapil: After a brush with danger, a strong-willed matriarch reminisces with her grandson on all the things their histories have taught them. (Cast: 2 female, 2 male)
