The acclaimed Samuel French Off Off Broadway Original Short Play Festival in Manhattan (commonly referred to as OOB) is America's leading short play festival. The annual OOB Festival originated in 1975 and has since attracted US and international short plays that may be up to 15 pages in length from countries like Canada, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Off Off Broadway Festival Plays, 48th Series is a collection of short plays selected by a panel of judges that included New York playwrights, artistic directors, and industry leaders as the most important plays of the 48th OOB Festival. The Final 30 Playwrights competed for the six prize spots chosen from over 850 submissions worldwide. Six short plays were named the winners of the 2023 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival. The six winning authors are: Darius M. Buckley, Nicholas Hulstine, Sarah Kaufman, Shane Dittmar, Julissa Mishay Norment, Mallory Jane Weiss, and Elise Wien.

18 is a 10-minute drama by Darius M. Buckley: The story of two teenage black boys in juvie reflecting on the lives they once lived and what the unknown future holds. This play in verse is a coming of age story that explores how one moment can transform our lives forever. (Cast: 2 male)

Nub City, USA! is a 10-minute dark comedy by Nicholas Hulstine: Dwayne and Glen have discovered a gold mine! Not really, but they did discover that if they take a life insurance policy out for $500,000 before they go hunting, and if Glen "accidentally" loses a limb and doesn't die, the policy will pay out in full. They just need to go to a magical place called Nub City, USA. (Cast: 2 male)

The Velociraptor's Very Good Day is a 10-minute musical comedy by Sarah Kaufman and Shane Dittmar: When an impossible-to-predict tragedy strikes, it's up to Velociraptor to embrace who they really are and make a discovery that will change the world forever. (Cast: 1 female, 1 male, 1 any gender)

Dugout Daisies is a 10-minute dramatic comedy by Julissa Mishay Norment: During the longest inning of their lives, two bench warmers kill time by chatting about the things that matter most to them: why they are on the sidelines. (Cast: 2 female)

Drawbridge is a ten-minute comedy by Mallory Jane Weiss: The lexicographer is coming! Tuesday and Door have one job: lower the drawbridge. But what if the lexicographer comes bearing language for their feelings this time? Drawbridge is a play about the potential power of words and the people that help us find them. (Cast: 2 any gender)

Freestyle Hand Entry is a 10-minute drama by Elise Wien: Ches recounts their attempts to get to a bag of Bugles stuck in the vending machine in the JCC rec room. (Cast: 1 any gender)
