About the Plays:

The volume One-Actmanship contains two snappy one-act plays by Norm Foster. From the afterlife and imagination to what to heed and what to ignore while we are alive: They all matter in My Narrator and The Death of Me. Rapid dialogue and the occasional plot twist make for two engaging tales, which may be performed separately or paired as a double bill to create a full evening of entertainment. Both are an ideal choice for one-act festivals.

My Narrator is a romantic comedy that asks you to imagine what would happen if that little voice inside your head – the one that tells you how to behave and what choices to make – suddenly took on a life of its own? For Lacy and Miles, love is what happens, and with hilarious results. Both Myles and Lacey have an invisible narrator who provides tips on how to behave. The dichotomy between their advice and what Myles and Lacey actually do provides some fun, as does a budding romance between the narrators. The Death of Me: John, one of the nicest guys alive, wakes up from a dream to discover he's actually dead. Even worse, he's caught in a waiting room to Heaven dealing with the Angel of Death. He talks her into giving him a second chance at life so he can correct some of his mistakes. Along the way he learns that in correcting past mistakes, it is easy to make all kinds of new ones, and that perhaps his destiny is not yet etched in stone. About the Playwright:

Norm Foster enjoyed a 25-year career as the morning man at independent radio stations in Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, and Kingston, before finally ending up in Fredericton, where he began writing plays. He is considered to be Canada's most produced playwright, with more than fifty-five critically acclaimed plays that are known for their humour, accessibility, and insight into the everyday tribulations of life. He is the recipient of the Los Angeles Drama-Logue Award for his play, The Melville Boys which would go on to be produced across Canada and in the United States, including a well-received run Off Broadway in New York. It would become his signature play, and the one which would bring his name to the forefront of Canadian theatre.
