About
the Play:
Onegin is a full-length musical drama by Amiel Gladstone
and Veda Hille.
Based Alexander Pushkin's
masterpiece novel in verse and the stunning
opera by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky,
Onegin tells the love
story of the innocent Tatyana and the self-obsessed aristocrat
Onegin. Onegin is a soaring musical adaptation begs you to answer the
question, "Look around, look around, look around, Do you see
someone worth dying for?
Onegin is a lush,
passionate, and acclaimed musical about trying not to fall in love.
Life is quiet on the Larin family's Russian country estate – until
the charismatic Evgeni Onegin, a dashing but jaded aristocrat from
St. Petersburg, inherits his uncle's estate in the country. His
arrival ignites the romantic longings of its residents. Poet Vladimir
Lensky dances with jealousy when his dear friend flirts with his
fiancée. Even the reclusive young Tatyana falls hopelessly under the
spell of the aloof Onegin and professes her love for the handsome
rogue. But will Onegin embrace real love or simply skim its surface?
Through Gladstone and Hille's original, dynamic score, audiences are
swept into a musical experience as immersive as love itself.
Onegin premiered in 2016
at Goldcorp Stage at the BMO
Theatre Centre in Vancouver,
enjoyed a
sold-out run with two holdovers, and an unprecedented ten Jessie
Richardson Awards. Since
then the play has been produced widely at
professional theatres across Canada and
in the
US.
