About
the Plays:
House and Here Lies Henry has become a favourites of acting teachers for Male Monologues.
One Voice contains House and Here Lies Henry,
two celebrated solo works by Daniel MacIvor. Giving his
characters life in a whirlwind of words, Canadian fringe theatre legend Daniel MacIvor showcases his talents as a writer in two
of his most celebrated solo shows. In groundbreaking House,
Victor drags his audience through his life, his fantasies, his
desires, and his recent push to the edge. Here Lies Henry is a
story about a man alone on a room with a mission to tell you
something you don't already know. These revised scripts for House
and Here Lies Henry seethe with anger and soothe with comedy.
House is stand up sit down one man comedy nightmare about
Victor, a man on the edge. His mother is possessed by the devil. His
father is the saddest man in the world. His sister is in love with
the dog. The one he loves does not love him … and he's got nowhere
to live. (Premiered in 1992 at the Factory Theatre in Toronto; Cast:
1 male)
Here Lies Henry is about Henry, a self-proclaimed liar alone in a room who
has got a lot he has to tell you, he just can't guarantee that it's
all true. In the spotlight, compelled by some unknown force to tell us his life story,
Henry grapples with his choices and failures in a scramble to make
sense of his life before it's too late. Daniel MacIvor's spellbinding one-person show offers a provocative take on love, death,
beauty, truth, and of course, good old-fashioned lying. Here Lies
Henry is funny, dark and absurd and likely something you've never
seen before. (Premiered in 1995 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre in
Toronto; Cast: 1 male)
Originally performed by Daniel MacIvor himself, House
and Here Lies Henry are fringe festival classics that continue
to be performed internationally by many actors in many languages.
