About the Play:

The Parade is a one-act comedy by Warren Giarraputo. What does the artist do in a brutal, totalitarian society? The Parade is a challenging yet thoughtful and accessible play.

The Parade deals with two characters who meet on the street while awaiting a parade. A man, possibly a former sousaphone player, fantasizes a conversation with a woman while waiting for a parade to pass. The woman becomes real enough to be physically assaulted and destroyed, but then resumes, at the end of the play, her place among the impassionate crowd of spectators.

The Parade was first produced by in 1966 by C.W. Post College at the Yale Festival of Undergraduate Drama and was praised by critics praised for its gift of dialogue.
