About
the Play:
Patchwork is a short play for children by Carol Lauck.
A group of fun fables and foibles
come alive as each story is told with audience interaction and fast
paced fun and laughter!
Patchwork is a cleverly designed ensemble of old fashioned
fables and contemporary foibles that is stitched together with wit
and wisdom. Fast paced, funny and thought provoking, each scene is
visually and mentally stimulating. Promising at the start to "wiggle
your giggle and tickle your noodle," the play, with its
collection of humorous and wise scenes, or "patches,"
offers actors the opportunity to portray over 41 characters in 14
scenes. Patches of stories intertwine to make a delightful family
theatre experience! Each scene is introduced by a patch ready to be
sewn, with the completed quilt presented at the conclusion.
Patchwork premiered in 1982 at the Little Lake Dinner
Theater in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania and has been revived several
times by Looking Glass Theatre Company – including a production
that featured Ming Na when she was a student at Carnegie
Mellon. One production at St. Edmonds Academy in Pittsburgh featured
an entire class of students, but the play is often done with just
four main characters.
Cast: 2 female, 2 male
