About the Book:
Directing plays in schools is far different than directing for
professional theatre.
Subtitled A Drama Director's Survival Guide, this
invaluable text effectively details and explains the world of
producing plays in the school environment. In ten comprehensive
chapters the author of this theatre text explains the "real
world" of producing effective theatricals (including musicals)
in the school environment. Play Directing in the School
provides you with ideas for consistently successful shows, while
avoiding the pitfalls and the problems that often block the way. From
the selecting of the script to casting to rehearsals to building your
theatre program, David Grote supplies the key to opening the
curtain to successful productions. Whether it's budgeting,
scheduling, or the motivating and management of students, this is a
must for anyone directing in an educational institution.
About the Author:
David Grote has directed more
than 150 productions. He headed an independent student company at the
University of Texas and later taught and directed theatre programs in
high schools in Bakersfield, California before moving to Scripps
College in Claremont, California. Since the mid-eighties, he has been
a free-lance director based in San Francisco, but he has continued to
work regularly with high school and college student actors in
workshops, summer programs, and as a guest artist.
