About
the Play:
POTUS is a full-length comedy by Selina Fillinger.
In the brilliant, all-female
political satire POTUS,
a group of unwitting heroines, ranging from the Chief of Staff to the
mistress to the First Lady herself, must keep the toxic office
culture of the White House from tipping into international disaster.
Will they grab a little power for themselves in the process?
POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying
to Keep Him Alive is a riotous
and irreverent look at sex and politics set in a fictional
administration rife with gaffes and stumbles. One four-letter word is
about to rock 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. A derogatory comment, a
summit gone awry – it's a bad day at the White House. When the
President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the
seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life,
liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief,
the country, and possibly, the whole dang world, out of trouble.
Horrible bosses make life miserable in a variety of ways, but when
the doofus in charge is the President of the United States, the
stakes of maintaining workplace sanity are even higher. POTUS
skewers the proud American
tradition of feckless male leadership while also hinting at a better
way forward.
POTUS premiered in 2022
at the Shubert Theatre in New York City, making Selina
Fillinger, at 28, one of the
youngest playwrights to be produced on Broadway. This all-female
farce took Broadway by storm in a star-studded production that earned
three 2022 Tony nominations.
Since then the play went on to become the third most produced play of
2023 with
regional premieres at professional theatres across North
America.
