About
the Play:
Puffs or: Seven
Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and
Magic is a full-length comedy by Matt Cox. For
seven years a certain young,
bespectacled English wizard went to
a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not
that boy wizard's story. This is the story of The
Puffs... a lovable group of misfits who just happened to be there
too. Puffs has become
a cult hit with Harry Potter fans.
Puffs is a Harry
Potter inspired parody.
Some people are born to do great things. Some people change the
world. Some people rise from humble beginnings to beat back the
forces of darkness in the face of insurmountable odds. Puffs
is the story of the people who sit in class next to those people.
This clever and inventive play never goes more than a minute without
a laugh giving you a new look at a familiar adventure from the
perspective of three potential heroes just trying to make it through
a magic school that proves to be very dangerous for children.
Alongside them are the Puffs, a group of well-meaning, loyal
outsiders with a thing for badgers who are so lovable and relatable,
you'll leave the theatre
wishing they were in the stories all along. Their hilariously
heartfelt and epic journey takes the classic story to new places and
re-imagines what a boy wizard hero can be.
Puffs premiered in
2015 at The People's Improv
Theater off-off-Broadway in
New York City. It was
supposed to be performed five times only but ultimately ran for eight
months. Then
it moved to off-Broadway's
Elektra Theater in 2016 and
then transferred in 2017 to
New World Stages were it ran
until 2019. The play
has become a popular choice for school and community theatre
productions.
