About
the Play:
Quiet Please is a one-act comedy by Howard Buermann.
The major characters are two
brothers who share a small cabin but haven't spoken to each other in
more than 10 years. Their
lives are turned
upside down when they receive a visit from a mysterious woman,
who forces them to interact with each other.
Especially
recommended for school and contest use.
Quiet Please tells the story of Jeff and Judd, two brothers, separated by a chalk
line down the middle of their cabin. They carry on a long feud of
silence despite attempts to reconcile them. Their feud strikes a snag
when they find themselves with an uninvited overnight guest on their
hands in the form of Catherine, an
endearing young woman whose car has broken down near
their farm. The situation becomes hilarious as the brothers attempt
to maintain hospitality and personal hostilities. The feud collapses
and Catherine departs. Pleased with their reconciliation, the
brothers prepare to celebrate but fall into a wrangle trying to
recall what the original quarrel was about!
Quiet Please is regularly performed in middle school and
high school drama contests
and one-act festivals.
Cast: 4 female, 3 male
