About the Play:
Really Really
has become a favourite of acting teachers for Male
Monologues, Female/Female
Scenes, Female/Male Scenes,
and Male/Male Scenes.
Really Really is a full-length
drama by Paul Downs Colaizzo. A
college-age drama about the young and the ambitious, though some are
more ambitious than others. At an elite university, when the party of
the year results in the regret of a lifetime, one person will stop at
nothing to salvage a future that is suddenly slipping away. The
morning after, the annual bash is filled with gossip, self-interest,
and lies. The young adults are put in situations where the ways to
get ahead are to betray each other, make stuff up, and cut moral
corners.
Really Really
is set on a 21st century college campus, when a group of "Generation
Me" college students attend a wild party called 'The Annual
Tunnel of Love' where no phones or cameras are allowed. When
morning-after gossip about privileged Davis and ambitious Leigh turns
ugly, self-interest collides with the truth and the resulting storm
of ambiguity makes it hard to discern just who's a victim, who's a
predator, and who's a Future Leader of America. In this quick-witted
and gripping comic tragedy about 'Generation Me,' it's every man for
himself. All that's certain is when the veneer of loyalty and
friendship is stripped back, what's revealed is a vicious jungle of
sexual politics, raw ambition, and class warfare where only the
strong could possibly survive.
Really Really
premiered in 2012 at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia
where it broke box office records. It then moved to New York where it
played in 2013 at the Lucille Lortel Theater as part of MCC Theatre's
season and was extended twice due to popular demand. The
play has become a favourite scene study vehicle in acting classes and
workshops and is regularly performed in regional and college theatre
productions.

What
people say:
"Mr.
Colaizzo possesses an assured appreciation of the addictive power of
ambiguity, which he manipulates with a bait-and-switch mastery that
never lets up... This is Lord of the Flies with smartphones."
— New York Times
"An
exceedingly well-made play. Unexpected and thrilling." —
New York Observer
"What
starts out to be banal hijinks among a group of upper-crust college
kids takes a menacing and calculating turn that resembles the
poignancy of an Edward Albee creation." — Washington
Diplomat
"Really
Really is theater for the Gossip Girl generation – edgy,
funny, caustic, shocking – but thoughtful and weighty enough to hold
its own even among audience members who think tweeting's for birds
and Glee's an after-school activity." — Washingtonian
"
Really Really sucks you in with its brio and caustic
wit and holds you with its teasingly clever double-edged plot."
— Washington Post
