About
the Play:
Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll is
a full-length comedy by Eric Bogosian.
Like a hard rock track turned all the way up, Sex, Drugs,
Rock & Roll is a hilarious,
clever, and often riveting roast of the American Male. An
Obie-award winning series of monologues by premiere performer and
playwright Eric Bogosian, this non-stop tour through some
oddball minds enjoyed a lengthy run Off-Broadway.
Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll is a series of darkly comic
monologues by different urban and suburban men in modern-day America.
Each one is in some way related to one of the three vices of the
title – but that's not really the point. Through such recognizable
characters as a cerebral panhandler; a socially conscious rock star;
an aging environmentalist, and a dropout from the 1960's, Eric
Bogosian pokes fun at the excesses and absurdities of a
generation weaned on rock 'n' roll. He uses his brilliantly conceived
cast of unnamed characters to comment hilariously yet subtly on the
larger issues that define modern life: the relations between men and
women; man’s vision of the world and future; and the self-delusion,
anxiety, and hatred endemic to modernity. Sex, Drugs, Rock &
Roll presents a critique on modern life, with profound insights
riddled with shots of humour and pleas for understanding.
Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll premiered in 1990 at the
Orpheum Theatre Off-Broadway in New York City with Eric Bogosian
performing solo as all 10 characters. This play has also been
presented by regional and community theatres as a series of 10
monologues, each delivered by different actors.
Cast: 1 male, or as many as 10 performers

smack you right in the face." — The New York Times
