About
the Play:
Significant Other has become a favourite of acting teachers
for Female/Male Scenes.
Significant Other is a full-length comedy by Joshua
Harmon. Jordan is a young gay man looking for love, and facing a
lonely future as his three best friends, all straight women, find
partners and marry. When you are single and your friends are your
family, what happens when those friends settle down and make families
of their own?
Significant Other takes us into the single life of
late-twenties Jordan Berman as he confronts the limits of friendship,
the inscrutabilities of dating, and the loneliness of adulthood.
Jordan would love to be in love, but that's easier said than done. So
until he finds Mr. Right, he wards off lonely nights with his trio of
close girlfriends. But as singles' nights turn into bachelorette
parties, Jordan discovers that the only thing harder than finding
love is supporting the loved ones around you when they do. From the
critically acclaimed writer who brought you Bad Jews.
Significant Other premiered in 2015 off-Broadway at the
Laura Pels Theatre and transferred in 2017 to the Booth Theatre on
Broadway for a limited run in.
The play has become a favourite scene study vehicle in acting classes
and workshops and has
been mounted
by regional,
college and
community theatres.
