About the Author:

Evangeline Machlin (1918-2013) was longtime speech coach at Manhattan's Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and later professor emeritus of speech and theater at Boston University's School of Fine and Applied Arts. During her long career, Dr. Evangeline Machlin trained such actors as Marian Seldes, JoAnne Woodward, Tammy Grimes, Steve McQueen, Richard Boone, Faye Dunaway, Alfre Woodard, David Garrison, Lee Grant, Susanne Pleshette, and Jo Van Fleet. The Bournemoth, England native authored the seminal text Speech for the Stage, and received the American College Theatre Festival Award of Excellence.
