About
the Book:
Story is recommended by the Writers Guild Initiative!
Story will help you discover your strengths and weaknesses. Robert McKee is the "guru of gurus". He's a
"master of the form and a servant of the craft". He's
"legendary", according to the Washington Post, and
"brilliant", according to Newsday, and "empowering",
according to Movieline. He is, in fact, Hollywood's "most
wanted screenwriting teacher", and has been for over 30 years.
His popular screenwriting workshops have earned him an international
reputation for inspiring novices, refining works in progress and
putting major screenwriting careers back on track. Russell Brand, Jon
Cleese, Peter Jackson, Geoffrey Rush, Meg Ryan, Julia Roberts, John
Rivers, Kirk Douglas, John Cleese, William Goldman, Ed Saxon are just
a few of his celebrity alumni. Writers, producers, development
executives and agents all flock to his lecture series, praising it as
a mesmerizing and intense learning experience.
In the book Story, the world's most sought-after lecturer in the art of story expands on the concepts he teaches in his famed
story seminars (considered a must by industry insiders), providing
you with the most comprehensive, integrated explanation of the craft
of writing for the screen. Using hundreds of films as examples,
Robert McKee takes you through all the critical points which
allows you to write a screenplay which both works and sells. No one
better understands how all the elements of a screenplay fit together,
and no one is better qualified to explain the magic of story
construction and the relationship between structure and character
than Robert McKee.
What people say:
"Everything I know about story
structure, I learned from Robert McKee." —
Paul Haggis, two-time
Academy Award winner, two-time Emmy Award winner, and seven-time
Gemini Award winner.
"Robert McKee
was perfectly happy as a writer. He didn't expect to become
perhaps the most famous writing instructor in Hollywood, played by
Brian Cox in 'Adaptation', and known for his work with the likes of
Peter Jackson, 'Beautiful Mind' screenwriter Akiva Goldsman and John
Cleese." — CNN
