About
the Book:
Learning how to memorize lines is a key part of being a professional actor. What's an actor to do?! Memorizing a script isn't like memorizing a regular piece of text,
but many actors treat it the same way. Yet there's so much more going
on than words: feelings, colours, emotions, your breath, how you
stand, where your voice is coming from, what did you just do, your
objective with the words….
Auditions cause anxiety and while you may have lines memorized at home, when you walk into the room it's easy to get distracted and forget. Where did those lines go? They were here a minute ago…. Imagine
what it would be like never to worry about your lines again. How much
confidence you would feel, if the words came to you like second nature – genuine and authentic – as if they're coming from an actual person with real thoughts and ideas. How easy it would be to take direction, if you weren't
locked in your head trying to remember your lines? As actors, we need to prepare for this and be very, very memorized, so that we're confident, relaxed, committed, listening, and open to direction.
Well, that's where the memorization technique of Streamlining
comes in to benefit the actor. While it may seem like a simple
technique when she first explains it, Deanne Henry has
developed a whole new way of approaching text that – just like any
other fresh approach to something you're used to – takes more than
five minutes of attention to wrap your head around how to use it
fully.
Streamlining is a user-friendly, easily
comprehended line-learning system, The workbook guides you to a new excellence and a
thrilling freedom in your work. It is fun, and gets you involved
right off the top. Virtually hundreds of actors across North America
have had their eyes opened as they have succeeded with Streamlining.
