About
the Play:
St. Scarlet is a full-length dark romantic comedy by Julia Jordan.
The night their mother dies, three squabbling Irish-American siblings
find themselves snowed in at their home. A stranger from Brooklyn
arrives and changes their lives in a simmering tale of family
tensions and hot romance in the frozen landscape of Minnesota.
St. Scarlet follows an Irish-Catholic family living in the
heart of Minnesota. With their mother recently deceased and her body
unable to be removed from the house because of a blizzard, three
siblings are at war. A strange man from New York bursts in and
declares that the eldest daughter and he are in love. She claims she
has never laid eyes on him, but he refuses to leave without her. The
younger sister falls for the stranger, much to his dismay. And the
brother is simply disgusted by the whole thing. Then the secrets
start coming out.
St. Scarlet premiered in 2003 in a The Women's Expressive
Theater (WET) production at the arts complex at St. Mark’s Church
in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City and
enjoyed an extended off-off-Broadway run. The play has been
performed
in regional and
college
theatre productions.
