About
the Play:
The Foster Season contains three full-length
comedies by Norm Foster. These three touching and funny plays
focus on relationships between men and women, often slightly illicit
and always comedic. Norm Foster has been the most produced
playwright in Canada every year for the past 20 years. His plays
receive an average of 150 productions annually, making him the most
produced playwright in the history of this country.
Maggie's Getting Married is a touching romantic comedy that
revolves around 29-year-old Maggie Duncan and her titular nuptials to
marry Russell Macmillan. The Duncans are hosting a party in their
home after the wedding rehearsal to celebrate a marriage her mother
Cass had begun to fear would never happen. In fact, without Cass's
machinations, Maggie and Russell may never have come together, but on
the eve of what is supposed to be the best day of Maggie's life, the
marriage is threatened in an unexpected and shocking turn of events.
She discovers her older sister knows the groom a little better than
Maggie would like her to. Will sibling rivalry ruin her big day?
(Cast: 3 female, 3 male)
What people say:
"This is quite possibly
Foster's best play to date. The laughter never stops." —
The Guelph Mercury
"This is another example of
the sparkling wit and human insight of Canada's most prolific writer
of comedies that matter... sweet, snappy and seamless... a gem that
shouldn't be missed." — The Kitchener Waterloo
Record
Here on the Flight Path the story of John Cummings, a
lonesome, recently-divorced newspaper columnist living alone in a
fourth-floor apartment on the flight path of a nearby airport. The
entire play takes place on the adjoining balconies as he interacts
with a trio of women, Fay, Angel, and Gwen, who who move into the
apartment next to him successively over a three and a half year
period. This four-character "two-hander" is easy to stage since only
two actors appear together
at any point. This
makes
rehearsals significantly less taxing than your average show.
(Cast: 3 female, 1 male).
What people say: "Foster
cleverly weaves double meanings into his brilliant conversations –
clever and thought-provoking." — Rossmoor News
The Long Weekend has plenty of surprises along the way in
this biting comedy of manners. The truth and lies of a friendship
come to the surface during a weekend visit between two couples.
(Cast: 2 female, 2 male)
What people say: "…blissfully
old-fashioned, the kind of comedy that used to keep Broadway happy
for years. There's just enough sex, just enough smart talk, just
enough preposterous plot twists to keep you titillated." —
Hamilton Spectator
