About the Play:

The Hound of the Baskervilles is a full-length dramatic mystery adapted for the stage by F. Andrew Leslie from the novel by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Perhaps the most famous and popular of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, The Hound of the Baskervilles is a gripping tale that deals with the curse of the Baskerville family – and the fiendish killer-hound which stalks its members. Could that unearthy creature be back to terrorize, and destroy, another generation or two of the Baskervilles? Or is there another explanation?

The Hound of the Baskervilles is one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's best stories. The mystery plays on our fears of the unknown: Could it be a terrible beast is lurking in the darkness waiting to prance on the unsuspecting? As the action begins. Sir Charles Baskerville has died under mysterious circumstances, perhaps from a heart attack, though all signs point to him having been scared to death by the legendary monstrous and ferocious hound that haunts the moors surrounding his estate. The man believed to be his only living relative, his nephew Sir Henry Baskerville, has come from Canada to claim the family estate, but has been threatened even before his arrival at Baskerville Hall. Enlisting the aid of legendary detective Sherlock Holmes, the young lord sets out for his ancestral home on the Devon moor in the company of Dr. Watson, Holmes' trusted colleague, a journey which brings him to danger, mystery and a series of events which build steadily in menace and suspense. Hard pressed to protect his charge, and to fathom the strange mishaps which beset him, Dr. Watson is much relieved when Holmes himself appears – to trap the diabolical killer who stalks Sir Henry and to unravel the fascinating mystery which accounts for his evil actions. The Hound of the Baskervilles is a suspenseful tale that will keep your audience on the edge of their seats!

The Hound of the Baskervilles was first presented 1978 by the Frill and Dagger Players at Geneva College in Geneva, New York. A taut, easy-to-stage version of the classic thriller, the play has become a popular choice for school and community theatre productions.
