About the Book:
Written for film, television, and theatre makeup artists who need
to know the secrets on how to accomplish flawless makeup applications.
The Makeup Artist Handbook begins with fundamental practices
and continues through more complex techniques usually known only by
Hollywood makeup artists.
This full-colour and comprehensive book is written by accomplished
makeup pros Gretchen Davis and Mindy Hall — two
expert authors who have experience doing makeup for television,
opera, stage plays, commercials, and blockbuster films. Their projects
have included Rent, Stuart Little, The Nanny Diaries, The
Wolf of Wall Street, Star Trek,
and Pearl Harbor.
For her work on Star Trek, Mindy Hall won an Academy
Award for Best Makeup.
This new and revised 2nd edition of The
Makeup Artist Handbook offers even more
illustrated tips and demonstrates a variety of techniques visually, and also provides insider advice
about set etiquette and working with Hollywood actors. Beyond covering modern skills, such as air brush makeup for
computer-generated imagery (CGI) movies, application techniques for
high-definition (HD) films, the full-colour book also covers
black-and-white films, makeup for different time periods and even
features a reference section with industry websites, businesses and
resources.
High-definition technology has revolutionized the techniques
needed by makeup artists — you need to know more, have more talent,
and be more detailed than ever before. Because HD emphasizes every
detail on screen, it's essential for makeup artists to know how to
achieve a desired look that fits the director's requirements.
The Makeup Artist Handbook
is critically acclaimed as a must have for the working Makeup Artist
and will help aspiring makeup artists to hone their craft in both
conventional and HD techniques.
