About the Play:
Tiny Beautiful Things is a full-length dramatic comedy
adapted for the stage by Nia
Vardalos. An
online dating columnist draws from her own life to help thousands of
readers navigate life, love, grief, and forgiveness. Based
on the best-selling same-named
book of collected advice columns written
by Cheryl Strayed,
under the pen name Sugar.
Tiny Beautiful Things is
a play about reaching when you're stuck, healing when you're broken,
and finding the courage to take on the questions which have no
answers. Sugar is an unpaid, anonymous online advice columnist.
Thousands
of people have turned to her
column Dear Sugar for words of wisdom, honesty and hope. At first
unsure of herself, Sugar uses
empathy and her personal experiences to help those seeking guidance
for obstacles both large and small, creating a beloved column. It
was later revealed that Sugar was Cheryl Strayed.
Nia Vardalos adapts
the book, weaving together the real letters to explore the monstrous
beauty, endless dark and glimmering light which are at the heart of
being human.
Tiny Beautiful Things
premiered
in 2016 Off-Broadway at
the Public Theater in a sold-out run with Academy Award-nominee Nia
Vardalos in
the role of Sugar.
