About the Play:

truth and reconciliation is a full-length drama by Debbie Tucker Green. South Africa, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, Bosnia and Zimbabwe. Five devastating conflicts, thirty years, one room and one burning question: can reconciliation be found when the reluctant truth is finally spoken? truth and reconciliation is a hard-hitting, provocative play from one of the United Kingdom's leading writers.

truth and reconciliation is a bold drama that sets out to inspire serious reflection by confronting, shocking, and unsettling audiences. "I will not stay standing to have you accuse me. And I will not sit there and be accused." From Rwanda to Northern Ireland, Zimbabwe to Bosnia, answers are demanded, reconciliation is hard to hear and the truth is reluctant to be told. Twenty-two actors bring Debbie Tucker Green's sixty-minute unblinking exploration of loss to life. Stories from across the world weave together in a search for justice, as victims and perpetrators alike struggle for meaning in the aftermath of crime.

truth and reconciliation was first staged in 2011 at the Royal Court Theatre in London. The US premiere was in 2017 at Victory Gardens Richard Christiansen Theater in Chicago.
