About
the Play:
HARD TO FIND BOOK, only a very limited
number of copies are still available.
Two Steps From the Stars
(English version of Deux pas vers les étoiles) is a
full-length drama by Jean-Rock Gaudreault, translated by Linda
Gaboriau. Profound philosophical dialogue abounds from the two
11-year-old school mates as, after school one day, Junior shares his
plans with Maggie to to jump on a passing train and run away from
home and Maggie challenges his idea. Sometimes the trains of
childhood run very late. And rumours have a bit of truth to them…
And what if the new world were only two steps away?
Two Steps From the Stars
centres on a boy named Junior who wishes to run away to the United
States to become an astronaut. Junior is afraid he won't be able to
realize his dream of becoming an astronaut because he failed an exam,
so he decides to leave by himself for Houston on a train. Cornelia,
same age, who is hiding near the train, threatens him to expose his
secret if he will not take her along. Now, what if a new world was
only two steps away from them? Little by little Junior and Cornelia
begin to foster love and courage without knowing. They take a chance
to try a little escape journey, which will lead them to a wonderful
trip to their own wonderland.
Deux pas vers les étoiles premiered in 2002 and was
presented almost 200 times in Québec and France during their
2002-2003 and 2003-2004 seasons. The play won the Prix Rideau Vox
